Outreach

Finding Our Way is a program I developed in cooperation with Danbury Public Schools, and colleagues to bring together teachers, families, and STEM experts to work through environmentally relevant issues like water conservation, flood mitigation, and wetland habitat restoration.  My students focus on Lake Community Outreach in partnership with CT DEEP, and also work to build wildlife corridors with Pollinator Pathway Program and Norwalk River Valley Trail.  Families learn through stewardship training activities provided through the program, and teachers are mentored by university faculty to develop and use lessons that include stewardship and long term place based learning activities that are NGSS aligned and integrate local environmental organizations such as The Atlantic Marine Conservation SocietyHousatonic Valley Association , The Candlewood Lake Authority, The Connecticut Audubon Society, and Frogwatch USA and their conservation causes.  Please read through the website to learn about the many prizes and awards our participants have received and how this informal science education program has changed their lives.
