About

I was born in Washington, DC, to young immigrant parents who had fled a communist regime. As their “Number One Son”, I was expected to uphold the family honor by not only being a respectable citizen, but also by serving as a good example to my siblings and doing well in school — all of which I achieved to some questionable degree. At least my parents instilled in me a love for learning and exploring.

I eventually earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry (University of Maryland) and a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology (Indiana University). I did a postdoctoral fellowship at Cornell University.

I’ve served on the faculty of Wells College, Shandong University, University of Maryland-Eastern Shore, and Salisbury University.

Currently I serve as an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology at Western Connecticut State University.

In my free time, I explore National Parks with my family, bike rail trails, dabble in photography/videography, do house renovations, and play with my three doggies.
