When a molecule absorbs light in this range, the molecule gains a considerable amount of energy, and many interesting processes can result. For instance: molecules can &#8220;glow&#8221; (aka fluorescence\/phosphorescence), they can break apart to form new &#8220;photoproducts&#8221; (aka photolysis), or they can transfer energy to other molecules via collisions (aka photosensitization).
