Let us break it down for you<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Worried about whether you will be penalized for missing class? Worried that you&#8217;ll catch something due to coming to class since you are worried about possible deductions? Here are the valid reasons your absences will be excused. We would like to reiterate that this information is available in emails sent to your @wcsu.edu accounts as well as in the Emergency Management updates located on WCSU&#8217;s website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to Properly Excuse your Absence<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Identify whether you are experiencing any symptom listed below  regardless of whether you are diagnosed or not<\/li><li>Email your Professor(s) as soon as possible about your absence<\/li><li>Include Provost Alexander&#8217;s email which states to stay home and inform Health Services (copy of email is at the end of this post)<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Absence Not Excused?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Follow up with your professor(s) with the reason for not excusing your absence<\/li><li>If absence is unexcused for lack of documentation or classroom absence policy, contact your department chair<\/li><li>If the department chair does not yield results, follow up with contacting in the following order: Dean of Academic School and then Provost<\/li><li>If you are still concerned, contact SGA President, Paul Horkan, at sgapres@wcsu.edu<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Symptoms<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"\"><tbody><tr><td>COVID-19<\/td><td>Flu <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>&#8211; Fever* or feeling feverish\/chills<br>&#8211; Cough<br>&#8211; Shortness of breath <\/td><td>&#8211; Fever* or feeling feverish\/chills<br>&#8211; Cough<br>&#8211; Sore throat<br>&#8211; Runny or stuffy nose<br>&#8211; Muscle or body aches<br>&#8211; Headaches<br>&#8211; Fatigue (tiredness)<br>&#8211; Some people may have vomiting <br>and diarrhea, though this is more<br>common in children than adults. <\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p> *It\u2019s important to note that not everyone with flu will have a fever. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Reporting your Symptoms<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have flu-like symptoms, you should <strong>not<\/strong> come to campus.\u00a0This is instruction from Provost Alexander. Email Dawn Lipke of\u00a0WCSU Health Services\u00a0(<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"mailto:lipked@wcsu.edu\" target=\"_blank\">lipked@wcsu.edu<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Provost Alexander&#8217;s Email: <\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dear\nWCSU Community,<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In\nour earlier message regarding preparing for COVID-19, we asked that if you have\nflu-like symptoms you a) stay home and b) inform us. Today, we would like to\nclarify that process.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First, the regular flu (<strong>not\nCOVID-19<\/strong>) is still in full swing in our area.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Typical\nsymptoms of the regular flu include:<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fever and\/or chills, runny or stuffy\nnose, muscle or body aches, headaches, fatigue, sometimes vomiting and\ndiarrhea.&nbsp; Not everyone experiences all symptoms, but these are\ntypical.&nbsp; Here is the link to the CDC page to help you distinguish the flu\nfrom a cold.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/nam03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cdc.gov%2Fflu%2Fsymptoms%2Fsymptoms.htm&amp;data=02%7C01%7Cadebambo001%40wcsu.edu%7C49d201e3539a4d03298708d7c1140c6e%7Ce1622dbc94ba48ad87bba7f28074ee3d%7C0%7C0%7C637190164454552677&amp;sdata=fJBAEcTN67JLPNi3AKHLg5lkB0ZfwbcQzSeYlUsQyFs%3D&amp;reserved=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/flu\/symptoms\/symptoms.htm<\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\nwill be hosting a flu clinic on March 10, 2020, from 1:00-2:30 in Health\nServices, if you have not gotten a vaccine already.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Symptoms\nfor COVID-19 typically include:<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fever, cough, and shortness of\nbreath.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is not yet a vaccine or any\ntreatment of this. It should be noted that, so far, <em>it does not seem to show\nup like a cold or allergies<\/em>.&nbsp; The main impact seems to be in the\nlungs. Here is the link to the CDC page for more information:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/nam03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cdc.gov%2Fcoronavirus%2F2019-ncov%2Fabout%2Fsymptoms.html&amp;data=02%7C01%7Cadebambo001%40wcsu.edu%7C49d201e3539a4d03298708d7c1140c6e%7Ce1622dbc94ba48ad87bba7f28074ee3d%7C0%7C0%7C637190164454552677&amp;sdata=fQG4Keg4qPFU1lAi33bqPCOWXeUR0IadYwwGkb9iuXc%3D&amp;reserved=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/about\/symptoms.html<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>For\ncolds, flu, and COVID-19, the best practices are the same:&nbsp;<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stay home if you have a fever, wash\nyour hands with soap frequently, use an alcohol-based hand-sanitizer if you\ncannot wash your hands, and cover your mouth with a tissue or your sleeve if\nyou need to cough or sneeze.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Reporting\nprocess:<\/strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have flu-like symptoms,\nfaculty, staff, and students should not come to campus.&nbsp; We ask that you\ndo stay home, but also do let us know if you have flu-like symptoms.
